TIME FLIES LIKE AN ARROW; FRUIT FLIES LIKE A BANANA

I have this postcard. Someone wrote on the back: How I wish this wasn’t just a postcard, but a promise of our final destination. The card is printed & published in Ireland, Dublin. If my memory serves me right, I found the postcard in London, Minford Gardens, in front of the flat where I lived for about 2 months. Over the years I collected as many places to live as the amount of marbles I collected as a child. I work from a state of mind. This resulted in direct experience. The chambers of my mind influence my actions and decisions. It isn’t new ideas, but new places to put ideas. Embodied minds. Space as sculpture. Expanded being present. Space as wavy landscapes, as memory management. Describing something is like using it -- it destroys; the colors wear off; the corners lose their definition, and in the end what’s been described begins to fade, to disappear. This applies most of all to places. Someone said: “The earth is round, let us not be too attached, then, to directions”. And this was understandable - to someone from nowhere, every moment turns into a return, since nothing exerts such a draw as emptiness.
Myrthe van der Mark in collaboration with Joachim Badenhorst. Through play and direct experience she looked for ways to generate performative work in various residencies: Zuidpool, C-Takt, BUDA, Frans Masereel Centrum, VONK Studios, Het Bos and School van Gaasbeek.

Supported by De Vlaamse Overheid, Stichting Niemeijer Fonds, Platform 0090. Coproduced by Avee Gallery.
